I was born in beautiful downtown Seattle, Washington. As a young child, our family moved to Southern Illinois where I spent many summers as a camper, and later counselor, at Girl Scout camp on beautiful Little Grassy Lake. Hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, and kayaking are happy activities for me. I love to share nature and the outdoors with friends, family, students, and my dog Zoey who is a true nature lover in her own right and an agile, speedy hiker.
I am also a true animal lover. I wrote an essay in high school and won an Arabian mare named SuSu. She was a retired broodmare and a handful. I loved taking trail rides with her. In addition to our dog Zoey, I have adopted a desert tortoise named Terri who loves being hand fed. She is from the Desert Tortoise Foundation.
My family consists of my husband, Robb, who is a chef, three boys, and three grandchildren. We are all very busy but we try to take time for family and outdoor activities.
My work focus has been in schools at various levels, from preschool, grade school, and middle to high school. I especially love working with students on reading and with students who need extra support with school. Using nature as part of the learning environment strongly appeals to me. I am proud to work at a school with a strong community emphasis on stewardship and a growth mindset.
